Weaving a Shared Story

A workshop for anyone interested in movement as storytelling (Part 4 of Floriography Foundations)

2 hr

DESCRIPTION:

This workshop is the 4th in a 4-workshop series leading up to our Fall 2027 production, Floriography - head over to the Events tab to get all the Floriography details! But you don't have to be part of the show to take this workshop! It's open to all movers, age 18+. No aerial experience required. Taking at least one other workshop in the series and 1 to 2 Intro to Partner Acro classes is recommended before this workshop, but not required. ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP: In this workshop, participants will bring together the tools explored throughout the Foundations Workshop Series—including movement, acting, physical storytelling, and partner-acro to create collectively. Through play and experimentation, we’ll build images, movement phrases, and performance sequences from the ideas and experiences in the room, discovering how individual voices can become part of a larger artistic vision. WORKSHOP PRICING: Take this workshop for $40 or get the Floriography Foundations Package (at checkout) to book all 4 workshops for $35 each. To book the other workshops in the series, select Floriography from the Classes tab menu. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Stephanie Martinez Ramirez is a public sociologist, researcher, educator, and movement artist. As a child raised in Puerto Rico, she developed a deep curiosity about movement, creativity, and the many ways the body can communicate, connect, and transform. Despite financial limitations that often kept her from formal training, she pursued dance, acrobatics, aerial arts, choreography, theatrical performance, and collaborative art productions in Puerto Rico and beyond. A current Upside student, Stephanie loves aerial arts as a powerful blend of artistry, athleticism, storytelling, and self-expression. She has trained aerial arts for many years and taught aerial silks and sling at Chrysalis Aerial Academy in Gresham, Oregon, working with students of all ages to develop technical skills, confidence, resilience, and trust in their bodies. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes encouragement, personal growth, and meeting each student where they are. Now living in North Carolina, Stephanie continues to explore movement while navigating the ongoing process of healing, rediscovering her body after pregnancy, and reconnecting with the creative practices that have shaped her life.
