From Seed to Story: Rooted in Breath, Growing in Motion

A workshop for anyone interested in movement as storytelling (Part 1 of Floriography Foundations)

2 hr

DESCRIPTION:

This workshop is the 1st in a 4-workshop series leading up to our Fall 2027 production, Floriography - head over to the Events tab to get all the Floriography details! But you don't have to be part of the show to take this workshop! It's open to all movers, age 18+. No aerial experience required. ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP: Every story begins with a seed, and every creative process begins with presence. In this collaborative workshop, we will explore how breath shapes movement, how rhythm creates connection, and how individual expression contributes to a larger collective experience. Through guided exercises, improvisation, and group exploration, participants will listen, respond, and create alongside one another while discovering how stories can emerge through the body and through collaboration. WORKSHOP PRICING: Take this workshop for $40 or get the Floriography Foundations Package (at checkout) to book all 4 workshops for $35 each. To book the other workshops in the series, select Floriography from the Classes tab menu. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Stephanie Martinez Ramirez is a public sociologist, researcher, educator, and movement artist. As a child raised in Puerto Rico, she developed a deep curiosity about movement, creativity, and the many ways the body can communicate, connect, and transform. Despite financial limitations that often kept her from formal training, she pursued dance, acrobatics, aerial arts, choreography, theatrical performance, and collaborative art productions in Puerto Rico and beyond. A current Upside student, Stephanie loves aerial arts as a powerful blend of artistry, athleticism, storytelling, and self-expression. She has trained aerial arts for many years and taught aerial silks and sling at Chrysalis Aerial Academy in Gresham, Oregon, working with students of all ages to develop technical skills, confidence, resilience, and trust in their bodies. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes encouragement, personal growth, and meeting each student where they are. Now living in North Carolina, Stephanie continues to explore movement while navigating the ongoing process of healing, rediscovering her body after pregnancy, and reconnecting with the creative practices that have shaped her life. She is excited to create an original show, Floriography, with the Upside community! (Go to the Events tab for details.)
