About the event
Ever wanted to try trapeze? Here is your opportunity! No previous experience needed. If you can walk upstairs and are not afraid to go upside down for a short bit, join Kelsey for this 75 minute introduction to the wonderful world of trapeze! Single-point Dance Trapeze allows you to hang, wrap, swing, and spin! It's a beautifully versatile apparatus that allows exploration of both soft and hard apparatuses. Soft apparatuses include aerial fabric (silks and sling) where you move the apparatus around your body. Hard apparatuses (like lyra) don't change shape so you move your body around them. Trapeze is unique because it combines a soft apparatus (the two ropes) with a hard apparatus (the trapeze bar). You get the best of both worlds with trapeze!
NOTE: We will be using this workshop to gauge interest in starting regular group trapeze classes with Michelle Spurlock at Upside in the future!Â
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:Â
Kelsey has a background in contemporary dance and circus arts. She began training in circus arts in 2011 with Caroline Calouche & Co based in Charlotte, and performed in numerous company shows. She began teaching there in 2022 and then taught trapeze for Upside Aerial in 2023. Although she trains on multiple aerial apparatuses, trapeze is her favorite. When she became a full-time teacher at a school for the deaf, we were sad she had to leave Upside, but so excited she's returning for some summer workshops!Â
