Upside Aerial Arts & Fitness
A Workshop Exploring Transitions Betweeen Ground and Air with Gena DuBose
Time & Location
Sep 10, 2022, 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM
Upside Aerial Arts & Fitness, 2241 Hanford Rd #103, Burlington, NC 27215, USA
About the Event
In this workshop, we will explore how to use the ground in your aerial choreography. Aerialists will be taken through a series of floor work prompts with ways to come to standing, getting to your apparatus, and moving on and off stage. Artists should bring a piece of choreography they are working on to use during the workshop. Gena will offer ways to utilize ground movement before, after, or during your piece. This workshop is great for Fall Showcase performers who want help with how to start and end your showcase piece! But the workshop is open to all aerialists (not just Fall Showcase performers) who are currently working on choreography or movement phrasing. All apparatuses are welcome!
About the instructor:
Aerial arts have been Gena's passion since 2009. She has spent over 10 years navigating her path of creativity with a focus on physical awareness, movement capabilities, and how they pertain to the human body. Her certifications in Pilates, yoga, and personal training complement her aerial coaching. Gena has worked with many artists and dance educators to help perfect her aerial skill set, including Boleyn Willis-Zeger, Rachel Strickland, Shannon McKenna, and Lori Hernandez. Gena is also the founder of Durham-based SOAR Aerial Arts: a collaboration with professional, local artists to bridge the gap between aerial dance and performance art in her community.
