About the Event
ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS:
This 3-part workshop series will explore foundational beat pathways with an emphasis on progression through proper technique. When dynamics are done correctly, they actually make many skills (such as inversions) easier. They also bring a new level of excitement to aerial arts - for both the aerialist and the audience! The 3 workshops in this series are 4 weeks apart to give you time to train smaller beat progressions and build the strength needed before attempting longer body beats which lever at the shoulder with more force. We recommend training the beat progressions from each workshop at least once per week during Open Studio to prepare for the the next workshop in the series. During each workshop, you'll get plenty of notes to reference during your training time.
WORKSHOP 1 - FUNDAMENTAL BEAT PATHWAYS: (Sunday, August 23rd, 5:15pm - 7:00pm)
You'll learn what makes momentum easier and how to train momentum safely. We will explore bell beats, baby Fondas, turn hollow body beats, baby scissor beats, front back beats, Jane Fondas, turn pike and straddle beats. Each beat will build on the last so you can 'see' each component in it.
WORKSHOP 2 - ADVANCING BEAT PATHWAYS: (Sunday, September 20th, 5:15pm - 7:00pm)
We will take a deep dive into flare pathways and the progressive drills to understand this complex skill. We will explore how to apply the fundamental beats in beat combinations, how to switch between beat pathways as well as learn how to break down larger beats into smaller components for training drills.
WORKSHOP 3 - BEAT TRANSITIONS & APPLICATIONS: (Sunday, October 18th, 5:15pm - 7:00pm)
We will explore entries and exist from basic positions such as hip key, catchers (open wrap), s-wrap and front balance. This approach will include ways to identify the fundamental beat pathways in each transition and how to break down these skills to train in your body.
PREREQUISITES:
This 3-workshop series is designed for vertical apparatuses (silks and rope) at an intermediate to advanced level. Students should have the ability to invert repeatedly in the air (no tagging) and a solid two-hand straight arm hang for 45 seconds. Each workshop builds on the previous one, so students either need to complete the previous workshop(s) or receive instructor approval confirming you have an adequate personal beats practice.
WORKSHOP PRICING & REGISTRATION*:
Single workshops are $70, or register for all three workshops in the series for $60 each here:
*No need to RSVP on this Event page - this page is for information only.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR, LISA MARKER:
Hello! I am a nerdy lover of rope who enjoys breaking down skills and doing what feels good in my body. I first saw aerial arts in 2013 at the Cary Spring Days festival and instantly fell in love after my first lesson on the silks. In 2021, I got my first rope and have since been fascinated with rolling and momentum skills. I have trained under PJ Perry (wonderful Patreon), Dr. Jess Allen through her Flourish one-on-one intensive programs, Gabby B Aerila (another lovely Patreon) and Alex Allen through intensive and online courses. I teach from a 'nerdy' perspective so there will be lots of notes and 'checkpoints,' with a focus on safe progressions - as someone who started dynamic work in their 40s!
