Aerial Straps Workshop

About this workshop:

Aerial straps is a dynamic discipline that is all about progression. The goal of this 90-minute workshop is for students to train progression skills, which will lead to more difficult skills. In this workshop, we’ll work on skills such as Skin the Cat, L-sit, Candlestick, and spins. We will also discuss strengthening exercises, mobility, and rigging safety. This workshop will be kept small (with a maximum of 6 participants), so if you've taken straps at our studio or somewhere else before, let us know on the registration form so Jarrell can differentiate his instruction based on your previous experience. 

Prerequisites: 

Participants should have the ability to invert cleanly in the air on any apparatus and be able to hang in the air from two arms with engaged shoulders for at least 10 seconds. Athletic tape or wrist wraps are highly encouraged for this workshop.

About the Instructor:

Jarrell is a 34-year-old Cincinnati-born circus artist, specializing in cyr wheel and aerial straps. He started training Capoeira at the age of 19 and discovered circus arts in his mid-20’s. Jarrell’s best qualities are his creativity, his compassion, and his open-mindedness. He performed aerial straps and cyr wheel for the Nouveau Sud Circus Project - a contemporary social circus initiative rooted in the “underground” dance/acrobatic/physical theatre scenes of Charlotte  - for 8 years. He is also active in teaching circus arts and Capoeira in underprivileged communities. He incorporates the philosophies he learned in Capoeira to stress the importance of community and good energy in his circus workshops.
