Aerial Photo Session with Hal Schnee

Many Upsiders have asked about a photo session for posed pictures, and we are finally making it happen! Upside photographer, Hal Schnee, recently purchased new professional lighting equipment, and the results from a test run in the studio are stunning! In fact, one of Hal's test photos was selected as a winner of Digital Photography Review's World Photography Day Challenge! Here are just a few photos from the test run:

Why pay for an aerial photo session?

When Hal takes photos during showcase dress rehearsals, the results are somewhat random--it's hard to capture the perfect moment and the best pose. You might have your back to the camera or be too close to the unattractive ceiling, and there is no time to try it again. Or maybe you don't plan to perform in Showcase, but still want some amazing photos of you in the air. This photo session will give us 20 minutes to unleash your creativity! Hal can capture your favorite poses in your favorite costumes, optimize lighting, and even try some more unique angles and compositions that go beyond the full-length portraits Hal takes for dress rehearsals. With fewer performers, Hal will also be able to do more editing to optimize each image individually. As an aerialist himself, Hal has a good understanding of what looks good on the apparatus and how to turn even a simple pose into a great image. (We also want to help Hal get some return on his equipment investment. Not to mention all the time he has put in providing photos at no charge to our students over the years!)

What is the cost? What will I receive?

Aerial photo sessions typically range from $150 to $250 and only provide you with 5-6 images. For the premiere of this event, we will only charge $125. (Future sessions may cost more. If this first round of sessions fully books, we will schedule more at a later date.) Hal will provide at least 10 photos, in both small versions for sharing on social media and full-resolution for printing. Use them as you wish: promote yourself as an aerialist, display on the wall, or make gifts for friends and family. You can get photos in multiple costumes and on multiple apparatuses. We recommend no more than 3 different costumes-apparatus combinations to maximize the time we spend taking pictures. An Upside instructor will also be present to rotate you in the air for the best angles.

Please arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled time slot, in costume with your makeup done, to warm up and touch-up your costume, hair, and makeup as needed. Bring your ideas for poses, perspective, mood - whatever you hope to get from the pictures - and we will do our best to make it happen!
